How a spread reads.

The Atlas begins where order is strictest: with Swiss Style. Asymmetric grids, matter-of-fact grotesque typefaces and precise image-text relationships make information navigable. The left page provides context, the right page shows references – a structure that runs through all 120 styles.

Reading journey · Eight chapters

From grid to chaos – in eight steps.

The chapters follow a movement: first the grid creates order, then design reduces, refines and embellishes before becoming expressive, experimental and disruptive – until the deliberate breaking of rules stands at the end. Each chapter gathers 15 styles.

The order is an editorial reading journey, not a historical development or ranking.

Style 073 · Chapter 05 EXPRESSION

AfriCOBRA

Intense colors, repeated shapes and lettering run through the figures. Works by Jarrell, Jones-Hogu and Stevens show AfriCOBRA and later continuations of its visual language.

Use

A shared language for design.

The atlas is meant as a reference work: for entrepreneurs who commission design and for teams who carry it out.

01

Sharpen the brief

Instead of “modern but warm,” you name two or three styles by number. Agency or design team immediately see the same references.

02

Place your brand

Decide where your look should sit between Grid and Chaos – and which neighboring styles you deliberately rule out.

03

Vary campaigns

For a campaign, switch the chapter in a controlled way without losing the brand: same message, different design language.
