What it's about

You use money every day and barely know the machine behind it.

Interest rates rise, loans get more expensive, customers pay later, prices climb. Many entrepreneurs experience these movements like weather: unpredictable, external, unconnected. Yet they follow recognizable mechanisms, from banks' lending to the central bank's interest rate decision.

The shift in perspective

Whoever reads the machine spots connections earlier: why liquidity is getting scarcer in the market, what that means for your own financing, and where your own company stands in the cycle. The book explains; it doesn't recommend investments or build a portfolio.

What you'll learn

Five things that are different after reading.

  1. 01

Distinguish the three functions of money and explain why trust is the core.

  2. 02

Understand how banks create money through credit and what a bank balance sheet says.

  3. 03

Understand interest as the price of money and the role of central banks.

  4. 04

Relate inflation and purchasing power to prices, wages, and payment terms in your own business.

  5. 05

See your own company as part of an economic cycle with markets and incentives.

Who it's for

  • Entrepreneurs who want to translate economic news into their business
  • Founders who want to understand the fundamentals before their first financing
  • Executives who want to talk to banks, investors, or finance teams as equals

Typical starting question

“Why is my loan rate changing – and what does that have to do with the central bank?”

Planned content overview

The thread running through the book.

Work in progress. Chapter structure and order may still change before publication.

  1. 01

    What money does

Medium of exchange, unit of account, store of value, and why trust underpins everything.

  2. 02

    How credit moves money

Bank balance sheets, lending, and money creation explained without myths.

  3. 03

    The price of money

Interest rates, central banks, and the question of who actually sets the price.

  4. 04

    Purchasing power and inflation

What rising prices do to wages, margins, and payment terms.

  5. 05

    Companies in the economic cycle

Households, government, banks, businesses: where your company stands in the cycle.

  6. 06

Reading the system in everyday life

Interpret news, key figures, and market incentives correctly in day-to-day business.

A thought to start with

Reading the cycle in three questions

A thought to start with: every economic news item can be related to your own company with three questions.

  1. Who ends up with more or less money in hand as a result?

  2. How does that change the price of money, meaning interest, term, collateral?

  3. Where does this touch my customers, my suppliers, or my own financing?

Thought example

A central bank raises its key interest rate. Question 1: banks refinance at higher cost, and loans are granted more sparingly. Question 2: new credit offers cost more, terms become more conservative. Question 3: a customer who wanted to finance their investment through credit hesitates, and your order slips even though nothing is wrong with your offer. Whoever recognizes this early plans liquidity and sales differently.

Simplified thought example for illustration.

Frequently asked questions

Briefly answered.

Is this a book about investing or the stock market?

No. Volume 1 explains the monetary system: functions of money, credit, interest, inflation, cycles, and markets. There are no investment recommendations and no model portfolio. If you're looking for use of capital or wealth building, you'll find that in Volume 6 and Volume 7.

Do I need prior economics knowledge?

No. The book starts with the basic concepts and builds up the mechanics step by step. Prior knowledge helps but isn't required.

When will the book be released?

The volume is in development. Formats and release date will be announced; we deliberately name no date before it is fixed.
