Problem · Goals don't get implemented
The goal is decided. It isn't in the calendar anywhere.
Goals rarely fail for lack of ambition. They fail because there are no steps between the goal for the year and Monday morning.
Goal planner
One goal. Three stages.
Example goal: sell a new consulting package by the end of the quarter. Overwrite it with your goal; each line is a milestone with a first step.

Assumptions and limits
- Three milestones are a rule of thumb: enough for a path, few enough for one screen.
- Every milestone needs a person, not a team.
- None of it is saved or sent. Copy the result before you close the page.

How you'll notice
Decided in January. Forgotten in March.
- A few weeks after the strategy day, nobody talks about the goal anymore.
- Everyone is busy, but nobody is visibly working toward the goal.
- In the review, the goal gets moved instead of discussed.
Understand the causes
Where goals getting lost along the way.
- 01
The goal is too big
- How you'll notice
- Nobody knows what to do on Monday to make it happen.
- Why it happens
- Between goal and task, there are no stages where you can see progress.
- What helps
- Three milestones, each describing what is true then.
- Limit
- More stages make the plan more precise, but harder to take in.
- 02
Nobody is responsible
- How you'll notice
- The goal belongs to everyone, and so to no one.
- Why it happens
- Responsibility lies with the team instead of one person.
- What helps
- One name per milestone, someone who knows the status and gets help.
- Limit
- Accountable doesn't mean doing everything yourself.
- 03
The week doesn't know the goal
- How you'll notice
- Weekly planning starts with the to-do list.
- Why it happens
- Tasks are sorted by arrival, not by milestone.
- What helps
- Pick three tasks each week that move a milestone.
- Limit
- Day-to-day business keeps running; the goal only gets a fixed share.
- 04
No regular check
- How you'll notice
- Problems with the goal only show up at the end of the quarter.
- Why it happens
- There is no appointment where the status is looked at honestly.
- What helps
- A short check every two weeks: what moved, what is blocked?
- Limit
- A check only helps if someone changes something afterward.
Ways to solve it
From the strategy paper into everyday life.
| Way | Enough if | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Goal on one page and a check every two weeks | You have one goal and few people involved. | The link to the individual task only holds if you keep it in your head. |
| Goal table with milestones and names | One person maintains it and brings it to every round. | Sits next to the tasks and doesn't show whether work is happening. |
| Software for goals and metrics across several levels | Many teams need aligned goals. | High upkeep effort for small businesses. |
| Peak One | Goal, three milestones, and tasks should be connected, with check-ins on the goal. | Peak Work is built around one goal per quarter. Goals across several teams and levels are covered by the Goals app, which is marked as a preview. |

Frequently asked questions
Briefly answered.
What is the difference between a milestone and a task?
A milestone describes a state that has been reached, such as "Package and price are set." A task is a step toward it, such as "Ask three customers about their needs."
Do we need OKRs for this?
Not necessarily. OKRs are a format for goals with measurable results. For many small companies, one goal with three milestones is enough. The company goals use case shows how OKRs work day to day.
Can I pursue several goals in parallel in Peak One?
Peak Work is built around one goal per quarter so that priorities stay clear. Goals across several teams and levels are covered by the goals app, which is currently marked as a preview.
