UTM tracking for small marketing teams

One campaign, one name in every report.

Source, medium, and campaign decide whether your report shows a promotion as one row or as five. Build a link right below and see what software needs to watch for when handling many links.

Try it right away

Your UTM link in twenty seconds.

Destination URL and three required fields. The link is built in your browser; your entries are not stored or transmitted.

The page the link should lead to, with https://.

Where the click comes from, e.g. newsletter, linkedin.

Type of channel, e.g. email, social, cpc.

Name of the campaign, e.g. herbstaktion.

Distinguishes variants, e.g. button-top.

Your link

https://example.com/angebot?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=herbstaktion

  • The builder sets utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, and optionally utm_content. utm_term for search terms isn't included.
  • If the destination URL already has parameters with the same name, they are replaced; an empty utm_content removes an existing value.
  • The link doesn't count clicks. You see how many visitors come through it in your analytics tool.

Quick overview

What UTM tracking software does.

UTM parameters
Additions to a link that specify source, medium, and campaign so your analytics tool assigns visitors to the right campaign. Software for this makes sure all links are built to the same standard and stay findable instead of scattered across a spreadsheet.
Formula
Destination URL ?utm_source=source &utm_medium=medium &utm_campaign=campaign
Example
The fall promotion runs via newsletter and on LinkedIn. Both links carry utm_campaign=herbstaktion but differ in source and medium. In your reports, the promotion shows up as one campaign, broken down by channel.
Common mistakes
  • Mixing upper and lower case, so “Newsletter” and “newsletter” become two sources
  • Adding UTM parameters to internal links on your own website
  • Making up campaign names from scratch for every link instead of taking them from a template

How to recognize good UTM tracking software.

Peak UTM

Name, check, find again.

Only what's documented on the app pages for UTM and short links.

Is this right for you?

Put in honest perspective.

Peak One is a good fit if

  • You promote campaigns across several channels and want to see them under one name in your reports.
  • Several people build campaign links and have so far written sources differently.
  • Your links currently live in a spreadsheet that's rarely up to date.

Something else fits better if

  • You only need a single link now and then. The builder above is enough for that.
  • You want to see click counts without an analytics tool. Peak UTM doesn't promise click counts of its own.
  • You need attribution across multiple touchpoints through to revenue. UTM parameters alone don't do that.

Frequently asked questions

Briefly answered.

What's the difference between this page and Peak UTM?

The builder above creates a single link in your browser. Peak UTM keeps all links on a template-based standard, assigns them to campaigns, and checks whether they follow the standard and work.

Which UTM parameters do I really need?

utm_source, utm_medium, and utm_campaign. utm_content helps when you compare variants, such as two buttons in a newsletter. utm_term is mainly meant for search ads.

Should I write UTM parameters in lowercase?

Yes, ideally throughout. Many analytics tools are case-sensitive, so “Newsletter” and “newsletter” show up as two sources. Hyphens instead of spaces keep the link readable.

Do UTM parameters belong on internal links?

No. UTM parameters are meant for links from outside to your website, such as from a newsletter, ad, or post. On internal links, many analytics tools let them overwrite the visitor's actual origin.

Does Peak UTM count clicks?

The website doesn't promise click counts. Peak UTM tags your links consistently, and you see the visitors in your analytics tool. Google Analytics 4 can be connected to Peak One.
