Automation calculator

From cases per month, minutes before and after, imputed hourly rate, operating costs and setup effort: freed-up capacity, imputed benefit, net benefit and payback.

Cut-out composition: a white hand feeds a blank card into a brass printing press that outputs burgundy cards – a metaphor for repeatable, automated work.

Inputs

Including review, approval, and rework – not just machine time.

Calculation value for one hour of work time. Time saved is capacity, not a booked amount.

Licenses, usage, maintenance.

Process mapping, setup, test set – value internal time too.

Inputs are processed only in your browser. Nothing is stored or transmitted. Either comma or period works as the decimal separator.

Capacity (h/month) = (minutes before − minutes after) × runs ÷ 60 · Benefit = capacity × hourly value · Net = benefit − operating costs · Payback = setup ÷ net (only if net > 0)

Freed-up capacity

–

Time that can be used differently – not money in the bank.

Calculated benefit (gross)

–

Capacity × calculated hourly value

Calculated net benefit

–

Benefit − monthly operating costs

Setup payback

–

Limits

What the calculator doesn't answer.

  • Freed-up time is capacity. Whether it turns into money depends on what happens with the time – the calculator uses an imputed value, not a booked one.
  • Rework for exceptions, review time and cost of errors must be factored into “minutes after” or into the operating costs yourself.
  • Payback is only shown if the net benefit is positive.
