Problem · Meetings without results

Discussed for an hour. Nobody knows what happens now.

Meetings without results rarely lack content. What's missing is the moment at the end when someone says what was decided and who does what by when.

Meeting checklist

Before, during, after that.

Go through the points for your next meeting. What stays open appears on the right as the next step.

Your status

0 / 9

Next:

  1. 1The meeting has a goal in one sentence.
  2. 2The agenda came beforehand, with questions instead of keywords.
  3. 3Only people who decide or contribute are invited.

Assumptions and limits

  • The checklist doesn't make meetings shorter, but more binding. It doesn't check whether a meeting is needed at all.
  • For short reviews, the points on decisions and tasks are enough.
  • None of it is saved or sent. Copy the result before you close the page.

Your entries stay in this browser. Nothing is saved or sent.

How you'll notice

A lot of talk. Nothing decided.

  • In the next meeting, the same topic gets discussed again.
  • After the meeting, everyone remembers something different.
  • Tasks from the meeting appear nowhere and stay undone.

Understand the causes

Where results get lost.

  1. 01

    Topic instead of question

    How you'll notice
The agenda consists of keywords like "Marketing" or "Project X".
    Why it happens
A topic can be discussed endlessly, a question can be answered.
    What helps
Phrase every agenda item as a question that ends in a decision.
    Limit
Some meetings are for exchange; then the goal is understanding, not a decision.
  2. 02

    Unclear who decides

    How you'll notice
The discussion goes in circles until time is up.
    Why it happens
Everyone waits for agreement, nobody has the final say.
    What helps
Before the item, say who decides and whether there will be a vote.
    Limit
A person with the final say needs the team's trust.
  3. 03

    Nothing recorded

    How you'll notice
There are no minutes, or only keywords nobody understands later.
    Why it happens
Taking notes isn't a role, so nobody does it properly.
    What helps
One person takes notes, with decisions in full sentences.
    Limit
Minutes only help if they live where the team looks.
  4. 04

    Tasks without a name

    How you'll notice
In the end it's "we'll do it," and nobody feels addressed.
    Why it happens
Tasks are discussed but not assigned.
    What helps
Give every task to one person with a due date while still in the meeting.
    Limit
Whoever is absent has to be asked before they get a task.

The apps for it

Available in Peak One.

To get started

Three apps around the meeting.

Three steps

The next meeting ends differently.

  1. 01 / 03

    Questions instead of topics

Write every agenda item as a question that should be answered by the end.

  2. 02 / 03

    Read out the decisions

In the last five minutes, read each decision aloud. Whoever objects does so now.

  3. 03 / 03

    Assign tasks in the room

No task leaves the room without a name and a date.

Frequently asked questions

Briefly answered.

Who should write the minutes?

Not the person who leads the meeting. The leader watches time and decisions; the note-taker records them. The role can change every time.

What if nothing can be decided in the meeting?

Then the result is a task: Who clarifies what's missing for the decision, and by when? That belongs in the minutes too, with a name.

Will we find decisions again later?

Peak Docs has its own view for the decisions that appear in your documents. You can see how they show up there in the app.
